The Story of the Bubble
My husband is convinced that I live within a 3 foot bubble and see nothing else on the outside of that 3 feet, except every once in a while, I open the bubble and look out. This is most likely true, but I like the bubble. It is safe and cozy, and who doesn't want to be safe and cozy. But there are some side effects to the bubble that are less desirable, such as...not really knowing what is going on in the world news, and frankly, not really knowing what is going on period. My family happens to think that it is funny to point out that fact that I am naive in situations that do not pertain to the bubble. However, I know that they are the ones that are missing out, it is fun in my bubble. I tend to tell some pretty funny stories, I make really good food, and I get a lot done.
Why the bubble is perplexing to my husband: Before I became a stay at home mom, I was a very successful medical assistant at a very busy Rheumatology office. I was well respected and I was smart. It was always mistifying to my husband that the minute I walked through the door my bubble closed and I became funny Jen, not really knowing what was going on. He couldn't understand how I could go from being this really smart, really helpful person to someone who just smiles and nods...I used to think that this was a defense mechanism for work that I would just let my brain shut off the minute I got home so I could relax and have fun, but now that I am a stay at home mom, the bubble seems to be a permanent fixture. Luckily for all of us, our small son-Sims fits really nicely into the bubble. Once my brother-in-law Brad made a comment to me..."So Jen, Matt tells me that your really smart at work, is that true?" Nice, real nice.
